If you want to avoid freeway driving you can get from Anaheim to Catalina Island ferry on surface streets. The shortest route is taking Harbor Blvd south. Travel south on Harbor Blvd from Anaheim. Make a right on to Newport Blvd. Take Newport Blvd south to Palm Street and turn right. This will be the enterance to the all day/multi-day parking lot.
